Day 1: Los Angeles, Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo

With the sun on your face you make your way to two of the most iconic sites in Los Angeles. First is Hollywood where you’ll find the famous sign and the Walk of Fame. Next is Venice Beach where the weird and wonderful people of LA hang out, making it an ideal place for people watching. Head north out of the city to Santa Barbara for some free time exploring the famous pier and lunch near the beach. Our final destination is the beautiful area of San Luis Obispo where you can dip in the warm Californian sea as the sun melts into the ocean.

Day 2: Big Sur State Park & Monterey

Follow the famous coastal road to Big Sur State Park where you’ll find perhaps one of the most iconic waterfalls of the area, McWay Falls. Spot sea lions and elephant seals from the shore and catch some rays – don’t forget your sunscreen! Now on to Monterey which has been called “the greatest meeting of land, sea and sky”. Take a walk along the sparkling coastline in search of whales which frequent the area between April and October, and see those cheeky sea lions again. Monterey has eclectic shopping areas and awesome bars on Cannery Row offering live music, comedy and dancing.

Accommodation: Camping included

Day 3-4: San Francisco

San Francisco; home of the hippy and one of the most diverse and interesting of Californian cities, with tons of charm and personality. Your tour leader will show you what’s good, including Haight Ashbury, made famous by the musicians such as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix who lived nearby. Make a beeline for the Golden Gate Bridge where you’ll be able to get a feeling for just how big this landmark is by walking across. Why not take a cruise on the bay for an unforgettable sunset, and then go bar hopping the ‘Speak-easy’ pubs, which originated as underground drinking establishments during prohibition. No visit to San Francisco is complete without trying the sourdough bread from one of the local bakeries, or a Buena Vista Irish coffee at the historical Buena Vista on Hyde Street.

Accommodation: Hostel included

Day 5: Yosemite National Park

This morning you make your way to one of America’s most revered national parks, Yosemite. Prepare to be wowed. Thundering waterfalls, huge granite cliffs shaped by the elements and towering Sequoia trees are all perfect camera fodder within this huge wilderness. We have two days here to hike, bike or float through this extraordinary landscape, so make sure your camera is well charged!

Accommodation: Camping included

Day 6: Yosemite National Park & Bishop

The day is free for you to hit the trails in search of bears, coyotes, marmots and Golden Eagles. The trails open up a new side to Yosemite and unveil the wild and rugged scenery which has drawn travellers from all over the world, including the world famous photographer Ansel Adams. In the afternoon drive to Bishop for an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Camping included

Day 7: Death Valley National Park & Las Vegas

Leaving early we visit one of the hottest places on earth, Death Valley! In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Visit the pock-marked landscape of Devil’s Golf Course and head down to Badwater Basin, a low salt flat which is like a huge blank canvas – perfect for some ‘perspective’ photos. There’s loads to see and do in Death Valley – if you an stand the heat! This evening, roll into the neon desert city of Las Vegas for the end of your trip. Make sure you spend a few extra days in Vegas to sample its massive array of casinos, clubs and all-you-can-eat buffets! What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas so kick off those boots and get those glad rags on for the time of your life!
