Description: Walking on Frozen River of Zanskar is an ultimate experience for adventure lover. The traditional name of the trek is “Chadar trek” the frozen sheet, which was only way in and out for Zanskar in winter when all other ways are closed due to heavy snow fall at high passes. Therefore, it had been trade route for centuries for Zanskar People. Now the route is also famous as winter trekking among adventure lovers. For last several years, The Chadar Expedition is an adventurous trek plunging deep into the heart of Zanskar, an area of rare beauty. From January to February the Zanskar River freezes for a few weeks, this spectacular trek follows the traditional trading route through the Zanskar Gorge. The Gorge – impassable during the summer months, is a lifeline to the outside world in the depths of winter. The Chadar region is rarely visited by foreigners and allows a glimpse of this enchanting winter universe, dramatic mountains and glaciers, home to the Zanskari people and their ancient Zanskar Monasteries. Local stays in villages and river side Caves. Intense cold to be expected the early morning and evening.
Day 01: LEH – CHILLING. Morning drive to Chilling along the river Zanskar. This takes about 02- hour’s approx. O/n at Chilling. This day distribute the luggage amongst the porters and getting acquainted with the local villagers. O/n Camp.
Day 02: TREK START: CHILLING – SHINGRAK (Ice-Trek) (Bago men’s Caves). The first day of the ice-trek leads us to Shingrak via TelatSumdo which is known for its rich wood. We will also come across atleast five to six caves at TelatSumdo. Each cave can accommodate six to seven persons. They are of the radius of 5to 6 meters. If you are lucky, then you may come across a snow leopard. We will stop for lunch at MarkalagaBago – the place of the white caves. (Maraklaga is white clay in local dialect / Bago is cave in local dilect). O/n Tents.
Day 03: SHINGRAK – TIB BAGO (Ice- Trek) This day of the trek is through Rocky Mountains. En route we will also stop at Tsomodo, which has links with Tibet. Lunch break will be at Tutu Rong.TibBago is the largest cave in this route. It said to accommodate at least fifty people together. Tib means shadow in local dialect-this place does not receive any sunshine throughout the whole year. O/n Camp.
Day 04: TIB BAGO – NYERAK PHULU (Ice Trek) the fourth day of trek leads to NyerakPhulu the Shepherd camp. This place is used by the local shepherds, who stop here for few days to take an account of their cattle, before proceeding further down to TibBago. O/n Camp
Day 05: NYERAK PHULU – TSARAK DO(Ice Trek) Stop en route at Shalado for lunch. O/n Camp.
Day 06: TSARAK DO – PIDMO (Ice Trek) this day you are enter to Zanskar area there is around 50 Family houses and a small monastery which is belong to Gelukpa society. O/n Camp/Local House.
Day 07:PIDMO – ZANGLA – KARSHA – PADUM. Today we drive to Padum en route visiting Zangla&Karsha.O/n Guest House.
Day 08: AT PADUM. Day rest at Padum to visit Sani Monastery.O/n Guest House.
Day 09: PADUM – TSARAK DO. Drive to Tsarak Do. O/n Camp.
Day 10: TSARAK DO – LINGSHED DHO. O/n Camp.
Day 11: LINGSHED DHO – LINGSHED. O/n Camp.
Day 12: LINGSHED – NYERAK. O/n Camp.
Day 13: NYERAK – BAKU LA BAGO. O/n Camp.
Day 14: BAKU LA BAGO – TELAT SUMDO. O/n Camp.
Day 15: TELAT SUMDO – CHILLING. O/n Camp.
Day 16: CHILLING – LEH. Trek Finish and drive to Leh. O/n Hotel / Family Guest House.
