Milam Glacier is about 28 km long, biggest glacier of the Kumaun, Uttarakhand. It originates from the slope of Kohli and Trishuli peaks and situated on the south facing slope of the main Himalayan range. Milam Village which is located near the glacier is one of the highest villages in the Himalayan range. Munsyari is the base for the trek route leading to Milam glacier.

The trek to the Milam Glacier is amongst the best of treks in this region, taking you through some of the remotest areas with breathtaking panorama. Finally reaching the glacier, one is awed by the splendor of the majestic Mt. Trishuli (7070m) and Hardeoli (7151m)

Route of the trail ( Itinerary):-

 

Day 1 DELHI – KATHGODAM Arrival in the morning at Kathgodam railway station (Gateway of the glacier). Then drive to Chaukori Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 2 CHAUKORI (2010mts)- MUNSIYARI (2290mts)

Drive from Chaukori to Munsiyari to arrive by lunch time. Munsiyari is the road head for trek. From Munsiyari one can get an excellent view of the Panchchuli peaks. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 3 MUNSIYARI – LILAM (1852mts.) 12kms / 5hrs Tents

Drive from Munsiyari to road end then trek to Lilam village. A walk along to Gori river with Quir-gemia and Sai-polo villages on the left banks, one reaches the villages of Lilam. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 4 LILAM – BOGUDIYAR (2450mts.) 14kms / 6hrs Tents

Trek from Lilam to Bogudiyar to arrive by evening. In the thick forest of Uttes After a steep uphill climb one reaches Bogudiyar, where the Poting rivulet meets Gori River. overnight in tents

 

Day 5 BOGIDIYAR – RILKOT(3200mts) 14kms / 6hrs Tents

Trek from Bogidiyar to Rilkot .It is situated above the river and one can visit ruins of old Rilkot. Overnight in tents.

Day 6 RILKOT – MILAM VILLAGE (3434mts.) 15 kms / 6hrs Tents

Trek from Rilkot to Milam to arrive by evening. One gets the view of Martoli peak soon after Rilkot and after crossing the bridge at Burfu the trek is on the left bank of the Gori river and views include that of Longstaff Col. The Eastern and main peaks of Nanda Devi Sanctuary and the Har Deval peak. Overnight in tents/ local village house.

 

Day 7 MILAM VILLAGE – MILAM GLACIER -BURFU VILLAGE 16kms / 8hrs Tents

Trek from Milam village to Milam glacier and back to Milam village Trek brings one to the Milam glacier with various glaciers feeding the main one from different valleys. After lunch trek to Burfu village. Overnight in tents/local village house.

 

Day 8 BURFU VILLAGE – NAHAR DEVI 14kms / 6hrs Tents

Trek back to Rilkot from Milam village overnight in tents.

 

Day 9 NAHAR DEVI – LILAM 19kms / 7hrs Tents

Trek from Rilkot to Bugdiyar to arrive by evening. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 10 LILAM – MUNSIYARI (2290mts) 12kms / 5hrs Tents

Trek from Lilam to Munsiyari to arrive by afternoon.

Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 11 MUNSIYARI – NAINITAL Hotel.

Drive from Munsiyari to Nainital to arrive by evening. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

 

Day 12 NAINITAL – DELHI

Enjoy the lake city, Explore the mall etc. evening drop to kathgodam railway station.
