CHOPTA , TUNGNATH (Family Trek)

 

Chopta is a picturesque hamlet which is still unexplored by travelers. Chopta is the commencement point of the trek to Tungnath. Another 1.5 km trek from Tungnath leads to Chandrashila (4000mts above sea level) which offers a splendid view of snow clad Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba. Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila are covered with snow during winters. If you visit the place during Dec-Feb, you may witness snowfall and enjoy trekking in snow.

a short easy trek running parallel to the high Himalayas. Good views all the way, beautiful camping by the lake at Devariyatal and some great forests. In the early spring the rhododendron forest glow red as the flowers bloom.

Accessibility : Take the overnight Mussoorie Express (10:15pm) from Delhi to reach Haridwar early in the morning.

Route of the trail ( Itinerary):-

 

Day 01:- Arrival in the Arlee morning at Haridwar then drive to Okimath then 4 kms. Trek to Devariyatal (2438 m.) It is a beautiful lake, where one can see the reflections of Chaukhamba peak on the crystal clear water. Night stay at Devariyatal.

 

Day 02:- After breakfast 6 kms.trek to Chopta. The trail goes through the dense forest and stays on the ridge all the way from here we descend for a while to cross a stream and then climb up gradually to reach Chopta, located in an idyllic setting having beautiful meadows and is surrounded by dense forests. Check in the Camp.

 

Day 03:- After breakfast 3kms. trek to Tungnath then Chandrashilla (4100m.). Tungnath, one of the Shiva temples is the highest temple in Garhwal The summit of the Chandrashilla peak provides a breathtaking 360 degree view. Evening back to camp.

 

Day 04:- After breakfast drive back to Rishikash. Catch train to Delhi
